Borges ran this vault’s threat model decades in advance. His universal library holds every possible book and is thereby worthless — truth present but undiscoverable in the noise. His imperial cartographers perfect a map so faithful it matches the empire point for point, whereupon it is abandoned to the weather, useless precisely at the moment of total accuracy. Both stories are warnings addressed to encyclopedias with the word comprehensive in their charter.
The vault’s defense is the machinery this entry lives inside: the compost that keeps signal expensive, the gate that scores rather than accepts, the human merge that makes growth selective. Comprehensiveness is retained as direction, demoted from destination — the vault aims at everything and survives by refusing most of it. Whether that discipline holds as the engine scales is not a settled question; it is a position, held openly at Open Position: The Comprehensiveness Wager.
