navigation Directory

Purpose

This directory contains Jekyll navigation data files that define the site's menu structure, navigation links, and page organization for the parody news generator's publication site. These YAML files control how users navigate through different sections of the Jekyll-powered blog and documentation.

Contents

  • about.yml: Navigation structure for about pages and project documentation sections
  • main.yml: Primary site navigation including main menu items, header links, and footer navigation
  • posts.yml: Blog post navigation including category organization, archive links, and post pagination

Usage

Navigation files are loaded by Jekyll templates and layouts:

# Example main.yml structure
main:
  - title: "Home"
    url: /
  - title: "Blog"
    url: /blog/
    submenu:
      - title: "Technology"
        url: /category/technology/
      - title: "Satire"
        url: /category/satire/
  - title: "About"
    url: /about/

# Usage in Jekyll templates
{% for item in site.data.navigation.main %}
  <a href="{{ item.url }}">{{ item.title }}</a>
  {% if item.submenu %}
    {% for subitem in item.submenu %}
      <a href="{{ subitem.url }}">{{ subitem.title }}</a>
    {% endfor %}
  {% endif %}
{% endfor %}
